WELCOME

I would like to welcome all of you to participate in the 8th Stochastic Models of Manufacturing and Service Operations Conference that will be held in Kuşadası, İzmir, Turkey during May 28th - June 2nd 2011. The conference is organized by Koç University.

The first conference of this series was organized in Samos, 1.5 km from Kuşadası across the Aegean Sea in 1997. Following the conferences in Greece, Netherlands, and Italy, the eighth conference in Turkey will bring researchers working in the area of stochastic modeling of manufacturing and service operations together.

The format of this conference has not changed since the first one: invited papers are presented in single-track sessions spread over three days. Sufficient time is allocated to meet and discuss research. Industry tours and social programs are also included in the program. This format played a significant role to form a network of researchers specialized in stochastic modeling of manufacturing systems.

I would like to thank the members of scientific committee including Yves Dallery (Ecole Centrale, Paris), Stanley B. Gershwin (MIT), Semyon M. Meerkov (U. of Michigan at Ann Arbor), Chryssoleon Papadopoulos (Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece), Tullio Tolio (Politecnico di Milano, Italy), George Liberopoulos (University of Thessaly, Greece), and J. MacGregor Smith (University of Massachusetts, Amherst MA) and also the members of the organizing committee including Fikri Karaesmen (Koç University), Aybek Korugan (Boğaziçi University), and Murat Fadıloğlu (İzmir University of Economics) for their contributions in the preparation of the conference.

We are looking forward to your participation in the conference in May 2011 in Kusadasi Turkey.

Barış Tan
